A newborn baby has already spent nine months in a fluid environment within the womb. Water therefore is not a strange experience and from bath time some simple exercises can be introduced, whilst preparing baby for swimming lessons. Skin to skin and eye contact is excellent for strengthening the bond between parent and child. We gently guide you and your baby into an enchanting other world, where you’ll experience the thrill of seeing them move freely and confidently through water with a grace and autonomy you’ll rarely see on land. One parent will be in the water with their baby till the age of about 24 months when the weaning process will start. This is when they start swimming with an Instructor.  Our unique methods will enable your baby to feel at ease swimming both above and below the water, and they’ll love the sensation of floating in such a warm, calm atmosphere. Your baby’s comfort, safety and enjoyment are paramount within our philosophy. Baby swimming is an entirely safe and gentle activity – and one that will have beneficial impact on you and your child far beyond the confines of the lessons itself. While the emphasis is on having fun, the Baby Swimming lessons is carefully structured, with progressive lesson plans. Lessons are offered twice a week, or on Saturday mornings. The swimming program is built from years of experience, swimming and coaching locally as well as internationally. This includes coaching babies, adults, toddlers and also those with special needs. Our aim is to keep instruction simple and understandable. The most useful program comes from (P.B.S.T.A.) Baby Swimming which is the Professional Baby Swimming Teaching Association. They train infant/toddler swimming Instructors and encourage interaction with fellow Instructors, enabling them to share knowledge and ideas thus promoting communication and unity. In their early training, the infant will experience a great deal of tactile stimulation from water resistance over their entire body. The water has over 600 times the resistance of air, which is great for the muscles, and it encourages neurological development, too. The more tactile stimulation of the nerves the child experiences, the more that interconnections and neural pathways can develop in the brain cells. This touch and connection with the water between a parent and child can also establish a deeper emotional bond between the parent and child because they’re face-to-face, skin-to-skin, touching in the water. Research has shown that it benefits an infant emotionally, cognitively, physically and socially. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BABY SWIMMING? The Orcas Baby Swim program is designed to be energetic and fun-filled and in so doing teaching you to teach your baby to swim. This will naturally strengthen the bond between you and your child whilst also providing a well-balanced work-out. There are many health and social benefits: • Regular exercise helps strengthen your baby’s heart, lungs and respiratory system. • In terms of development, the first year is the time when your baby’s brain will grow most rapidly and regular exercise will help strengthen it for all that new learning it needs to do. • Exercising in water removes the inconvenience of gravity and allows your baby’s muscles to move freely and assist in the development of muscle control. • Your baby (as will Mom and Dad) will benefit from the social interaction with other swimmers in a playful environment. • Swimming regularly will help improve your baby’s eating and sleeping habits. Early exposure to swimming can help fend off future breathing problems like asthma. |
